About Our Microcement

Microcement is gaining popularity as people discover it’s superior strength, water resistence and adhesion qualities, making it a great choice for creating seamless bathrooms, countertops, floors and more. 

However, not all ‘microcement’ is created equal. Microcement is a blanket term, like paint or render. There are different brands with different ingredients, application methods, prices and aesthetics. 

Microcement is sometimes also referred to as microtopping, microcrete, microcement and even waxed, or layered concrete. 

So it’s useful to keep in mind, that different brands of microcement can vary greatly.

Our Mercadier Decoration microcement is what many call a ‘true microcement’. It contains no lime and is extremely durable. It can be applied in a wide range of situations such as showers (including shower trays), basins, countertops, and even floors. It has a unique ‘mineral’ aesthetic. When finished it has a natural, stone-like appearance, showing subtle nuance and trowel lines. 

Most microcements have different aesthetics. They are often easier to apply, but don’t have the same aesthetic or strength. They mostly have different ingredients including lime and/or more acrylics and different sealers.

Some microcements, especially those designed for floors, can look ‘plastic-like’ due to the high acrylic content. I renovated our bathroom using a different brand some years ago and the difference is vast.

Mercadier Decoration Microcement (or waxed concrete as it’s called in France) is one of the premium microcement brands in Europe and has been on the market for close to 20 years. It’s preferred for it’s strength and natural look and..fun fact, many applicators are women!
