Each year, more than 10 million tonnes of shell waste ends up in landfill worldwide. The Circular Sea Collection exists because we didn't like that number — a first-of-its-kind range of architectural wall finishes made by diverting discarded oyster shell into terrazzo, ombré, rammed-earth and exposed-aggregate textures instead.

Oysters do a lot of quiet work most people never think about
They filter algae and nutrients from seawater, create habitat for other species, and protect coastlines from erosion — all while sequestering carbon in their shells. When that shell becomes "waste", all of that gets thrown away too.
We use recycled oyster shell in place of virgin aggregate, which does two things at once: takes pressure off the environment, and locks that carbon into a building material instead of a landfill. The result is a genuinely first-of-its-kind finish, with custom finishes available for larger-scale projects.

What is the Circular Sea Collection?
The Circular Sea Collection is a first-of-its-kind range of architectural wall finishes made by diverting discarded oyster shell from restaurants and the hospitality industry into terrazzo, ombré, rammed-earth and exposed-aggregate textures. It won the Australian Financial Review Sustainability Leaders 2026 award in the Manufacturing & Consumer Goods category.
Why oyster shell?
Oyster shell is about 96% calcium carbonate — almost identical to limestone — and holds around 12% carbon by mass. Using it in place of virgin aggregate keeps more than a waste stream out of landfill: it locks that carbon into a building material.
Where has the Circular Sea Collection been used?
Projects include Powerhouse Parramatta (more than 600,000 shells), the ARUP Brisbane workplace with Hassell, and Kivari at Sydney Central Plaza.
What finishes are available?
Two families are currently available: Ombre (Natural, Pine, Pink Clay and Shale) and Organic (Natural, Pink Clay and Riverbank). Custom finishes are available for larger-scale projects.
How long do Circular Sea samples take?
Circular Sea samples are made to order — please allow up to two weeks.
